Levy Information and Rally Announcement

posted Oct 8, 2011 6:01 AM by SECPTA Admin

At our last General Meeting we passed a motion that the SECPTA support the passage of the Strongsville School Renewal Levy (Issue No. 15) on the November 8, 2011 ballot.  The Strongsville Council PTA (made up of all Strongsville School PTA Units, including ours) discussed the levy at this week’s meeting and also passed a resolution in support of the levy.  It is important for us to be informed voters and help our friends and neighbors be informed on this issue as well, so I am passing on some information obtained at the meeting.

1.      There are important LEVY RENEWAL BULLET POINTS attached below.  Please open and read this to learn more about the levy, share it with your friends and neighbors. This document is from Jeff Lampert, Superintendent of Strongsville City Schools.  It is a fact sheet that he uses when presenting to groups within the City of Strongsville to ask for support for the levy renewal.

2.      There is a COMMUNITY RALLY to support Issue No. 15 this Tuesday, October 11 from 5:00 PM to 6:30PM at the Gazebo on The Commons at the corner of Pearl Road and Royalton Road. A flyer is attached below.  All Strongsville residents are welcomed and encouraged to come out and support our "Excellent" Strongsville City Schools!  Mayor Perciak, Superintendent Jeff Lampert and several others will be giving short speeches to the group and there will be entertainment provided by the Strongsville Marching Bands and the High School Choral Groups.  Council PTA is asking all those who attend to please wear your favorite Strongsville Spirit wear and proudly come out to support our schools!  It would be appropriate to bring your kids and all dress in your SECPTA shirts if you have one.  Signs showing support of the levy are welcome too.

3.      The Voter Registration deadline is also Tuesday, October 11.  In Cuyahoga County, to be eligible to register to vote:

·        You must be a United States citizen:

·        You must be 18-years old on the day of the General Election;

·        You must be a resident of Cuyahoga County for at least 30 days;

·        You must register to vote at least 30 days before an election to be eligible to vote;

·        17-year old residents can register and vote in a Primary Election if they will be 18 on or before the General Election. 17-year olds can vote for candidates, only.

How to register to vote:

·        Access the website of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections  http://boe.cuyahogacounty.us  and print the Voter Registration Card (must have original signature) and mail it to the Board of Elections - 2925 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44115

·        Call the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections at 216-443-3298 to have a Voter Registration Card mailed to you

·        You may register at one of the following locations in the City of Strongsville:
            City Hall                        18688 Royalton Rd.
            Library                           18700 Westwood Dr.
            Ohio License Bureau    15133 Pearl Rd.
            High School                   20025 Lunn Rd.
            City Service Center       16099 Foltz Industrial Parkway

4.      Absentee Ballots are no longer mailed to registered voters.  But anyone can still vote absentee in Ohio by requesting a ballot. Download an application from http://boe.cuyahogacounty.us/ or call the board at 216-443-3298. Applications are also available at the Strongsville Library, City Hall and the Ehrnfelt Recreation Center. Absentee ballots must be requested by Nov. 6 and returned ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 7 to be counted.  Voters can also drop absentee ballots off in person on Election Day on Nov. 8.
